When Land Use Consultants (LUC) approached us to support The Scottish Government’s Marine Scotland team, the goal was clear, to make it easy for people across Scotland to share how they use and enjoy the sea.
The Scottish Marine Recreation and Tourism Survey was designed to gather vital information on coastal and marine activities, from sailing and kayaking to beach walks and wildlife watching, helping Marine Scotland understand how recreation and tourism interact with Scotland’s changing marine environment.
Our role was to create an accessible, interactive online survey that allowed users to plot their favourite coastal and marine activities directly onto a Google Map interface. The survey, built using Gravity Forms, securely captured and exported geospatial data for analysis by LUC and Marine Scotland.
The result was a simple, engaging tool that encouraged public participation and provided valuable insight to inform future marine planning and policy decisions across Scotland.
